DGT Test in English — Spanish Driving test in English
By now you may already know that Spanish Traffic Department(DGT — Dirección General de Tráfico) provides an opportunity to take the Spanish driving test in English. Every expat living in Spain has an option to take the driving theory exam, the DGT test in English. This 30 minute driving theory test takes place in a 30 multiple choice questions exam format, from which you must have at least 27 correct answers to pass.
The Spanish Traffic Department(DGT — Dirección General de Tráfico) is the body in charge of issuing driving permits and licenses in the Spain. Their goal is to ensure that drivers have the necessary skills to operate vehicles with the least possible risk.
The DGT theoretical test allows it to be done in Spanish and in six other languages: Catalan, Basque and Galician (official languages of our country according to the Constitution) and in English, French and German (official and majority languages of the European Union ).
You must be a resident in Spain in order to attend the DGT test in English. If you are a foreign student not belonging to the European Union and you want to obtain a spanish driving licence, you must prove that you are in this circumstance for a minimum continuous period of six months.
If are doing the whole process through a driving school, it will be the school itself that will be responsible for submitting your application to take the DGT tests in English.
In the case of doing it yourself, you have two ways to make your request:
- In person, delivering all the documentation to any Headquarters or Traffic Office. In this case you must come with original and valid documentation to prove your identity:
- ID card or passport.
- If you are a community foreigner: Residence authorization or identity document from your country, or Passport together with the Certificate of registration in the Central Registry of Foreigners.
- If you are a non-EU foreigner: valid residence authorization. - Online, through the Electronic Registry. You must have a valid electronic ID or electronic certificate or your cl @ ve credentials to access the registry. In addition, as the presentation of your writing must be signed, it is important that you verify before making the registration that you have downloaded the AutoFirma program. You have a service that verifies that your team meets the requirements to be able to carry out the procedures electronically.

The filing of an application by registration is not an automatic process. DGT will respond to your request in the shortest possible time, but they do not guarantee a specific period. When DGT processes your request, they will send you an email confirming that it has already been made.
When carrying out the procedure, the date on which the application was submitted will be taken into account. Do not forget to keep the proof of presentation.
Before attaching your digital documents, check that they are easily legible and that they are digitized with good quality.
